The Ups and Downs of Michigan’s Online Gambling

It has been one year since online casinos and sports betting became legal in Michigan. In 2021 the industry generated $1.4 billion dollars in revenue and that number is expected to climb in 2022. While it also brought in state tax revenue of more than $200 million dollars, it has also led to an increase in gambling addictions.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services says they’re working on a new program in the Detroit area that will offer a longer outpatient treatment assistance program than the current 12 days.   The hope is to create a 30 day residential stay service for more effective treatment of gambling addiction.
