The Michigan GOP legislators have passed sweeping election reform bills to the Michigan Senate. The bills that were introduced would strengthen regulation of voter files, election equipment, and the allocation of funds for more training for election officials.
The bills were widely supported by the majority of Republican legislators, with one descending vote from a one Democrat. When the Michigan House approves the changes, the legislation will be sent to Whitmer’s desk.
The Michigan Board of State Canvassers approved the Secure MI Vote group to begin disseminating the petitions that would allow the enacting of the proposed election regulations, ensuring that Whitmer wouldn’t be able to veto the measure.
The Secure MI Vote are fighting for several voting reforms; including requirements for Voter ID, absentee ballots, and unsolicited mail in ballots.
