Auditor General Doug Ringler will lead a comprehensive study to fulfill the request of House Oversight Committee Chairman Steven Johnson.
Johnson is a republican lawmaker who is among many to question if there is an under count in nursing home deaths. He has also criticized Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for allowing previously hospitalized COVID-19 patients to return to nursing homes.
While there is no reported direct evidence her policy led to infections, 5,680 long-term care residents and 77 have died, accounting for 29% (a significant portion) of the 19,800 Covid-19 confirmed deaths.
