As things continue to change in the Covid-19 era, Imlay City has considered outsourcing it’s policing needs to Lapeer county’s sheriff’s department. Imlay City has less than ten police officers and the move is meant to help their budget as they move forward, though whether or not this would be a permanent change is unclear.
Residents of the city and surrounding area came out Thursday night to a special community forum in support of keeping their officers.
Resident Denis Kovacik presented the city manager with 925 signatures from a previously held petition rally, and for four hours, other residents took the stand to share their concerns.
Imlay City has yet to make a final decision and another meeting is planned for Tuesday, May 4th.
