GENESEE TWP- The Township of Genesee is mourning the loss of longtime Trustee Richard “Doc” Burrus.
According to his obituary: “Burrus passed away on March 31, 2023. Richard was born on July 26, 1954, to Robert & Marie (Kalanquin) Burrus. Richard was a lifelong resident of the Flint area, graduating from Kearsley High School in 1972. He went on to work at Buick and Arthur Treachers simultaneously, tirelessly working in his pursuit of becoming a chiropractor. After graduating in 1981 from Palmer College in Iowa, Dick obtained his Doctorate in Chiropractic Medicine. After returning to Flint, he opened Genesee Chiropractic Clinic, treating countless patients for close to 40 years. “Doc” had an impeccable work ethic and thoroughly enjoyed serving his community. He was a member of the former Kearsley Rescue Squad and has served on the Genesee Township Board as a Trustee for 22 years.”
Burrus was still on the board of trustees at the time of his death. This prompts the Genesee Township Board of Supervisor Dan Eashoo, Clerk Wayne Bates, Treasurer Tod Sorenson, Trustees Kathy Sutton, Patrick Gerace, and Ashley Witte, to vote on a replacement.
If you are interested in applying for the appointment, you have until April 26th to send in your resume and cover letter to Genesee Township Supervisor Dan Eashoo.
The board will then host public interviews for the open seat and vote on Burrus’ replacement.
You can call Genesee Township Hall at 810-640-2000 with any questions. You must live in Genesee Township to qualify for the appointment.
