GENESEE COUNTY- The current Chair of the Genesee County Democrat Party is now the new legal counsel for the county government — and at the same time.
Ashley Prew will now spend her day working as the legal counsel for the Board of Commission and county alike, while at night runs the Democratic party meetings on how to oust Republicans and maintain political power.
Prew is suppose to represent all within the county as legal/ corporation counsel on issues facing the county, including closed session matters.
However, many believe that she cannot represent the county fully without a political bias.
Prior to her appointment to legal counsel, she spoke at county meetings advocating for masking children. She also publicly bragged about calling out Republicans with recall attempts.
The questions becomes: despite her having a law degree, can she serve in the capacity of Legal Counsel and Democrat Party Chair?
Prew is now privileged to hearing all closed meetings, and confidential matters of the county, all while working as Democrat chair.
As reported by the Genesee Journal in an article about the appointment of Dominque Clemons:
Before Clemons left as county chair to take his new seat as clerk, he allegedly rallied votes for Ashley Prew to become legal counsel. The agenda item was never discussed in the media and seemed to be buried in an “off meeting”.
According to Clemons’ website: https://www.
The Chair of the Democrat Party would soon be the legal counsel and attorney for a county in which she ran her friends for office. A step further, would be the attorney/ legal counsel for some commissioners in which she worked against in her role as Democrat chairperson.
When the interviews took place to replace Gleason, they were done behind closed doors with the circuit court. No citizen had the opportunity to witness the interviews nor find out who all applied for their elected seat.
Did she use her position as Democrat Party Chair to convince those she got elected to appoint her to corporate counsel?
Why is Prosector David S. Leyton ok with this?
Is it a conflict of interest for her to run the Democrat Party and the county legal team at the same time?
As early as this week, Ashley Prew is now defending County Clerk Clemons with taxpayer money asking the current lawsuit into the clerk appointment be dismissed. Is this corruption at its finest?
Prew is also a member of the Fenton Community Schools Board of Education, a seat she ran for in 2022 after securing a paycheck from the county as corporation counsel.
The only way to undue this conflict is taking back the county commission, a recall of those that voted for her, a ballot initiative or an ethics lawsuit.
They also regularly vacation together
Someone forwarded this copy of the Genesee Journal. Very interested. Put me on your mailing list.
