Early Tuesday morning, the budget for the 2022 fiscal year in Flint was passed by council members after failing to approve a budget twice before the deadline last week. The budget passed with a 5-4 vote and avoids a government shutdown at the end of this month.
The new changes proposed on Monday have gained support from unions representing City of Flint employees and Flint Firefighters and Police Officers.
The council also voted to accept $95 million from the American Rescue Plan, which will be provided in two payments.
