THETFORD TOWNSHIP—The April 4th Thetford Township board meeting was filled with what residents are calling “slander against the Clerk from a board of fake republicans”.
To make matters worse, a recall has been filed on every member of the Thetford Township Board of Trustees.
It all started when the board engaged in political chicanery by switching parties to win elections.
Traditionally, Thetford Township has went Democratic at the ballot box. However, the political landscape has changed to Republican.
The change of the political climate has prompted some members of the board to switch parties in order to win a seat. In other words—-deceive voters.
In 2016 then Trustee Rachel Stanke ran as a Democrat. Fast forward to 2020, she ran as a Republican for Township Supervisor.
In that same election, Trustee Eric Gunnels ran as a Democrat and in 2022 he ran for State Representative as a Republican.
In 2016, Stanley J. Piechnik ran as a Democrat for Trustee compared to 2020 as a Republican.
Residents claim these individuals are really Democrats and are running as ‘fake Republicans’ to infiltrate the board.
Nicole Moore, Thetford Township Clerk, has remained consistent in her political affiliation of Republican.
Moore has been slandered by Gunnels and Stanke, amongst others and publicly in recent meetings.
During the April 4th meeting board members accused each other of election fraud, and the usage of cocaine and marijuana.
Gunnels insinuated at a recent meeting that Moore has been lazy and disapproved of her service.
Gunnels also publicly accused Moore of election fraud but offered no evidence of his claims.
Gunnels compared Moore with cocaine after he said she claimed he smelled like marijuana.
One of the Trustees encouraged Gunnels to “light up a joint right now if he thinks it’s so legal”.
As Gunnels was making accusations against Moore, she tried to speak up and defend herself. Supervisor Stanke shut Moore down and allowed Gunnels to continue.
When Moore finally took the floor she said she ran for the position to make a difference and those on the board have been after her since day one.
Residents at the meeting tell the Genesee Journal they believe the board of ‘fake Republicans’ are zeroing in on Moore to flip her clerks seat by case building.
In 2020, Republican Nicole Moore defeated Democrat Katie Ruth Hicks 1,805-1,786.
Since then, board members who switched parties have attacked Moore both in the office and at meetings, according to the live feed.
Residents on the live stream are now calling the Thetford Township board “worse than the Flint City Council”.

The next board meeting is scheduled for May 2nd at 6:30pm at Thetford Township hall.
The entire board is up for election in 2024.
Whomever wrote this story, I would encourage you to reach out to Rachel Stanke for a copy of the State Police Report regarding the 2020 election and 287 absentee ballots that were addressed and postmarked, recovered in a storage unit in September of 2022. A Special Meeting will be called by the Supervisor this month to discuss this information with the board and to inform the public.
