FLINT- Flint City Council President Allie Herkenroder announced at the June 8th meeting that she will be resigning.
Herkenroder gave an emotional speech at the end of the meeting in which she cited personal reasons for the resignation.
She represents the 7th Ward of Flint on the City Council.
The resignation will take effect on July 1st, according to her statement at the meeting.
Herkenroder defeated longtime Councilwoman Monica Galloway in the last election.
It is unclear if Galloway will seek the appointment to the position.
