For Michiganders receiving extended unemployment benefits, most cases have now closed with others to follow. Michigan has fallen below an 8% unemployment rate that triggers extra time for unemployment payments.
Maxium benefit weeks have now dropped from 57 to 50.
As the economy recovers from the effects of the coronavirus, the number of job openings remain high. Sherill Tarrant of Michigan Works in the Great Lakes bay region said that office positions are some of the most available, as well as retail and health care.
Michigan Works is an association that helps people polish a resume, interview and find a career.
“If it’s entry level, we want to help you get there,” Tarrant said. “We’ve helped people get into higher level CEO positions, and that’s through assistance with their resumes. You aren’t just born ready and able to put your resume together. Not everyone is just able to sit down and chit chat with someone over an interview. That’s what our job is to help you prepare.”
