The Rock Church in Tyrone Township invites the public to attend “Christmas at the Dort Center” on Saturday, Dec. 23.

The free event at the Dort Financial Center at 3501 Lapeer Road in Flint begins at noon.

Attendees can join in the Christmas celebration, which will feature live music and a message of hope. Approximately 40 partnering organizations are working together to make this event possible.

“The sole purpose of this entire endeavor is to proclaim the hope and redemption of Jesus Christ is available to every lost, lonely, and hurting soul,” said Wes Morris, pastor at The Rock Church. “People can expect a free, wonderful, come as you are, Christmas themed celebration. There will be music, encouragement, and a message of hope, concluding with a classic Christmas moment of singing Silent Night together.”

Following the event, the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan will be in the parking lot providing free food for those in need starting at 2 p.m.

Planning for “Christmas at the Dort Center” began in July when The Rock Church organizers were discussing their plan for Christmas this year.

“The idea began to settle in on us of trying to bring together as many churches as possible for the hope of Gospel. The number of participating churches, ministries and organizations is growing every day. As of this present moment there are approximately 40 partnering organizations,” Morris said.

The MTA will provide free transportation to the event. Morris said they met with MTA and shared the idea of providing free transportation.

“They were immediately excited about it and we were able to reach a very reasonable agreement with them to cover the cost of all bus transportation. All people will need to do on the 23rd is show up at the nearest MTA bus stop prior to noon, and say, ‘Take me to Christmas at the Dort Center,’” Morris said.

The network of ministries putting on this event is absorbing the cost.

“To anyone out there who may struggle with the holidays or is searching to find hope and true joy in a world that can seem dark; come to the Dort Financial Center at noon on December 23rd. We believe the Lord and His gracious salvation may meet you right there in your seat,” Morris said.
